At Winchester Roofing, we believe that true craftsmanship is about more than just putting on a new roof—it is about respecting the integrity of the structure beneath it. Recently, we had the privilege of working on a beautiful historical timber frame barn right here in our local community.
Following a period of high winds, the barn sustained localized damage. The powerful gusts caught the edge of the standing seam metal roof, curling up and compromising several panels.

Service: Standing Seam Metal Roof Restoration on a Local Timber Frame Barn
-
Product: Englert Metal Roof Coil (Color: Mill Finish)

When evaluating a historical structure, our core value of Respect guides our approach. The owner had a clear goal: restore the damage while keeping the look, feel, and original materials as authentic as possible.
Because the original color and natural patina of the roof were integral to the building's character, a full roof replacement was neither necessary nor desired. We needed a targeted solution that provided lasting protection without erasing the barn's history.

Our Process: Precision and Master Craftsmanship
To ensure the new work blended seamlessly with the old, our team executed a precise, step-by-step restoration process:
-
Careful Deconstruction: We meticulously removed the wind-damaged panels, carefully opening the seams to the adjoining, undamaged panels to ensure we did not harm the surrounding roof structure.
-
Substrate Preparation: Beneath the metal panels lay the original skip lap sheathing. We inspected and prepared this historical sheathing, securing the existing, undamaged metal panels to ensure a solid foundation.
-
Custom Fabrication: Using premium coil roofing metal from Englert, we fabricated the replacement panels right on-site. We selected the Englert Mill Finish metal roof coil to best match the raw, authentic aesthetic the owner wanted to preserve.
-
Expert Installation: We installed each custom-fabricated panel using hidden fasteners directly into the existing skip lap sheathing.
-
Hand-Seamed Finish: To guarantee a watertight seal and honor traditional building methods, we seamed the new panels to the existing roof both by hand and with a mechanical seamer.
-
The Final Details: We finished the restoration by installing replacement snow birds that perfectly matched the existing snow retention system on the barn.

The Result: Honoring the Past, Protecting the Future
The result is a fully restored, weather-tight roof that maintains the historical integrity and rustic charm of the original timber frame barn. By focusing on targeted repairs rather than a full replacement, we delivered a solution that was truly worth the investment, reflecting our core value of Value.
At Winchester Roofing, we do not just build roofs; we provide Lasting Protection for Generations. Whether you own a modern home in Winchester City or a historical agricultural property in Clarke County, our family-owned team is committed to delivering the highest quality work with minimal waste.
